GREEN LIGHT FOR COMMUNITY RENEWABLE ENERGY
Yorkshire Energy Partnership, the
local sustainability company, has passed the first stage of a government
funding application, securing £8000 to help residents invest in renewable
energy.
The government’s Renewable Heat
Premium Payment Communities Fund is an initiative which aims help communities
secure lower prices for sustainable heating systems – especially important for
villages where homes have no access to mains gas and rely on expensive fuels
such as oil, LPG or electricity to heat their homes.
Villages included in the project
include Sutton-on-the-forest, Tollerton, Brafferton, Crayke, Alne, Raskelf, Helperby, Linton-on-Ouse and Newton-on-Ouse, who all stand
to benefit from new sustainable heating systems which are designed to
significantly reduce heating bills and carbon emissions.
As part of the funding application
process, Yorkshire Energy Partnership has already forged links with the Lower
Swale Oil Buying Collective – a group of householders who work together to
drive down the cost of oil by bulk buying the fuel.
An information event for local
residents will take place at Helperby Village hall on 20th October
between 10am and 3pm where there will be an opportunity to speak directly with
suppliers, and receive independent advice from impartial energy advisors.
Anyone interested in discounted renewable heating systems is urged to attend.
Sophie Smith, Renewables
Coordinator for Yorkshire Energy Partnership, says:
“This project has the potential
to help householders significantly reduce their fuel bills and their
environmental impact. It will be of special interest to those living in rural
villages which are off the mains gas network. We will be working with the
Northern Renewable Network to deliver the project - which is set up
specifically to make sure people receive expert advice using locally-based
contractors and discounted high-quality products.”
Results from the second stage of
the funding application will be announced on 17th November.

Yorkshire Energy Partnership is working to secure the
Renewable Heat Premium Payment Communities Fund which will entitle
house-holders in the above areas to a voucher allowing residents to claim up to
£6000* for installing a heating system which relies on renewable energy.
Residents who benefit from this scheme will also be eligible
for the Renewable Heat Incentive which will continue to provide an income
stream for seven years from summer 2013.
